BSI achieves Health and Safety management system accreditation

BSI Management Systems has been accredited to deliver OHSAS 18001 certification

On the 22 March 2006, BSI received official accreditation for the Occupational Health and Safety standard, OHSAS 18001 from the RVA (the Dutch Accreditation Council). This accreditation was achieved through the BSI Management Systems Netherlands office in Amsterdam. This accreditation consolidates BSI’s position as a leading global service provider in the health and safety market-place.

Health and safety in the work place is an issue which affects all organizations. How do organizations keep up to date with legislation and set up a system to protect itself and its employees from the risk of accidents, litigation and downtime? The answer comes in two parts. First is the introduction of a management system based on the international best practice standard, OHSAS 18001. Second is to ensure that the OHSAS 18001 management system is independently assessed and certified by a reputable accredited certification body.

BSI is one of only four organizations which have been awarded this accreditation. Accredited certification will allow BSI clients to demonstrate their commitment to health and safety and in turn will allow them to meet the demands of their customers while protecting their workforce and reputation. Accredited certificate can also help clients demonstrate compliance to health and safety legislation which is a legal requirement in some countries. BSI will also continue to help clients integrate OHSAS 18001 into their existing management systems such as an ISO 9001 based quality management system.
